The 2005 White House ornament honors the 20th President of the United States James A. Garfield. Unfortunately, Garfield died two months after he was shot twice by an assassin. Garfield's ornament was designed to reflect his personal style and the Victorian era in which he lived. The colors and intricate motifs used to decorate the wreath are derived from the décor and collection of Lawnfield, the president's home in Mentor, Ohio. To complete the ornament is President Garfield's monogram which has been reproduced from his inaugural ball decorations.
