Complete Set - VINTAGE Wizard of Oz Jack-in-the-Box Style Music Boxes

A RARE FIND

Don't be fooled by the less eloquent version of these music boxes.  This set is the higher quality version sold in 1988 and fully authorized by MGM, Loew's, and Turner Ent. Co.

Superbly crafted out of porcelain, fabric and wood, these collectable musical jack-in-the-box recaptures the silver screen's most memorable characters. As a magnificent tribute to the Golden Anniversay of The Wizard of Oz. Each character is featured just as we recall them and is housed in a beautiful illustrated laminated jack-in-the-box decorated with nostalgic scenes from this beloved movie.  This collection is futher enhanced by the a special tune for each character and is strictly limited to a sequentially nubmered edition of seventy-five hundred. (paraprased from the bottom of the music boxes).

This is a RARE and COMPLETE SET of VINTAGE Wizard of Oz music boxes.  These music boxes are from 1988 - the 50th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz.  They are licensed by Enesco in conjunction with MGM Studios.  There were two sets made that year - this is the larger and more collectable of the two sets.  Each box measures 6"square and 8" tall closed.  There is a hinged lid that allows you to manually lower the character inside of the box.  The figures do not animate when the music plays.  There is an on/off switch at the bottom of each box.

The boxes are high gloss lacquered finish with each character depicted on their respective box.  There is elequent filigree work in a gold-color on the corners and edges of the box, and the lids include the MGM logo on the top and the inside.  The bottom of each box indicates the character, song title, trademark information and the issue number of that item.  There were 7500 of each character made.  The right side of the box (the four main characters together) and the lid (MGM logo) are the same for each character.  The characters are made with porcelen faces, synthetic hair, and clothes that depict their usual/recognizable attire from the movie.  The characters rise up when the lid is opened and need to be manually returned to the inside of the box when closing the lid.

 

1. Dorthy:  Sweet Dorothy flew from her Kansas abode, to the land of the munchkins and the yellow brick road.  The theaters roared with cheers and applause, as her magic slippers led to the Wizard of Oz.  The story relates her desire to roam, but she finally concludes there is no place like home  (excerpt from the side of the music box).

2. Scarecrow: The Scarecrow's so handsome, though his clothes are in patches. And he's wonderfully brave, despite his caution 'round mathes.  Made-up of straw and tied in the middle.  This Doctor of Thinkology can unravel any riddle.  A citizen of Emerald City, his intelligence the cause: A diploma was conferred on him, by the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (excerpt from the side of the music box).

3. Cowardly Lion: The King of the forest is proud as can be, since the Wizard of Ox heard his fervent plea. "Oh, give me great courage so I can run free." The wise Wizard said, "With this medal I decree, your great acts of valor and feats so grandee." Now this bold dandy lion has courge galore, he'll never be faint-heated or afraid anymore (excerpt from the side of the music box).

4. TinMan: The Tim Man is a ahppy fellow, always kind and very mellow. Oh so brave and very trusting, avoids the rain to keep from rusting.  Convinced that he was missing a part, he asked the "Wizard of Oz' for a heart.  The Wizard replied, "I think you will find, the lack of heart is just in your mind." (except from the side of the music box).

5. Glinda The Witch of the North: Beautiful Glinda good Witch of the North, Flew down in a bubble as Dorothy came forth. For her Glinda snatched those ruby red shoes from the Witch of the East a wicked, old shrew.  And with that she sent Dorothy and little Toto too down the yellow brick road to find adventures anew! But all along the way Glinda guided as they roamed, until Dorothy discovered, "There was no place like home."  (except from the side of the music box).

6. Wicked Witch of the West: The most wicked witch you have ever seen, is dressed black with a aface of green.  From her castle in OX came the dreadful news, she was after Dorothy and her magical shoes.  With her crystal ball she caclked in delight as she created disasters both day and night.  Then suddenly fate would at last befall her.  What did they use just a bucket of water! (except from the side of the music box).

The music boxes are in great working condition. The condition of the music boxes is mint. No chips, cracks, scratches, dents, broken pieces, fading, etc.  The condition of the characters is also mint - there are no breaks, crazing or cracks in the porcelain faces, the clothes are not torn, faded, or stained, and the hair is intact and remains loose (no matting).  These 22 year old pieces are really in excellent condition and would be an asset to your collection. Dorthy, Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man have the original boxes - Glinda and the Wicked Witch do not have boxes. 

Packing/Shipping: Each character's face (porcelin parts) will be protected for shipping.  Each box will be closed and fastened.  Each music box will be fully played (not left wound) and off. The boxes will be individually wrapped in bubble wrap and packaged together for shipping.  Insurance will be provided.  The "local pickup" option did not show when listing this set - but please be assured that option is available. If interested in local pick-up please contact me before paying.
