APOLLO ERA DETAILED, HISTORIC LUNAR MAP!!

This is USGS Map I-616, Geologic Map of the Maskelyne DA Region of the Moon, Lunar Orbiter Site II P-2, Southeastern Mare Tranquilitatis Including Apollo Landing Site 1?. This publication consists of one full-color map, an accompanying 4-page explanatory article, and the original manila sleeve. The map is at a scale of 1:100,000 and measures 42 x 25 inches. The picture shows a standard English tape measure for scale. The region is named for the Maskelyne DA crater, which is toward the left of the map. This was published in 1970.

This map was used in discussions of various potential landing sites for the Apollo missions. Numerous areas were selected  as candidate for landing sites, and doubtless some very interesting conversations took place before final selections were made. This was one of the candidate areas. Some of the features here make sense - equatorial, diverse geology, some large flat areas for landing. But what else made this area stand out. I wish I knew. Regardless, It is a historic map for its place in lunar exploration history, and a nice add on to a collection of Apollo items.

And it is a cool looking map. You could absolutely frame this and have great conversations about it, or just enjoy the appearance. The geology is detailed and benefitted from observations made by previous Ranger, Surveyor and Apollo missions.

Note that most of my photos are from scans of the map so you can see the details better than any photo I could take, but the first two photos are of the actual map, sleeve, and article you will receive.

I have seen these sold for crazy prices on ebay, way higher than I would expect (like above $300!) Maybe this is more valuable than I know, but I think it is a fair price.

I will continue to add new items to my store, so check back periodically.
